Chrome Web Store Privacy Summary
Last updated: April 29, 2026. This page summarizes the privacy practices represented in the NoteFrames Chrome Web Store listing.
Single Purpose
NoteFrames has one purpose: local-first timestamped note taking for YouTube videos. It helps you write notes while watching, review and search saved notes locally, return to saved timestamps, export Markdown, and manage local JSON backups.
Privacy Position
Notes stay in the current Chrome profile unless you choose to export them or restore them from a local backup file. The current release has no account system, no cloud sync, no hosted backup, no ads, no analytics, no telemetry, no AI processing, and no remote note processing.
Data Categories
The extension handles these categories only for its local note-taking features:
- User-provided note text.
- YouTube video IDs.
- Video titles and thumbnails used to recognize saved videos.
- Video timestamps and note creation times.
- Library order and local settings.
- Backup metadata for local JSON backup and restore.
The extension does not transmit these categories to external servers.
Permission Summary
| Permission | Why NoteFrames Uses It |
|---|---|
storage | Stores notes, saved video metadata, library order, and settings locally in the current Chrome profile. |
activeTab | Supports user-initiated navigation from the extension popup back to the active YouTube video or a saved timestamp. |
scripting | Supports the packaged on-page note-taking panel on YouTube watch pages, including videos opened through YouTube in-page navigation. |
Site Access
The packaged content script is limited to https://www.youtube.com/* so NoteFrames can detect YouTube navigation and provide the note panel on video pages. The panel mounts only on standard YouTube watch pages.
Remote Code
NoteFrames does not load or execute remote code. Extension code is packaged with the release build.
Limited Use Commitments
- Data is used only to provide or improve local-first timestamped notes for YouTube videos.
- Data is not sold, transferred, or used for personalized ads, profiling, data broker activity, credit decisions, or unrelated analytics.
- Humans do not read private notes through NoteFrames because the extension does not transmit notes to a NoteFrames service.
- NoteFrames follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Full Policy
The full privacy policy explains storage, exports, backups, permissions, and future policy changes in more detail.
